SYNOPSIS

The SolGen Hybrid Solar Generator System was used to replace a standard diesel 60kVA genereator to power a typical site set up for a period of 40 days. Through a combination of controlling power wastage and providing a high proportion of the required energy from solar, the SolGen produced a huge drop in generator runtime of 98% and a cut in fuel consumption/CO2 emissions of 97% during the period of the study.

This study highlighted clearly the enormous benefits of reduced power consumption that can be achieved using a SolGen solar hybrid generator with smart power monitoring and distribution board, allowing site energy wastage and inefficiency to be identified and eliminated. During the first 10 days it was identified that the original site set-up was using far more power than it should have been – well over a mega watt in a 10 day period, more than 100kWh per day (the average UK home only uses 10kWh per day). To power this, the 60kVA generator was running 24 hours 7 days a week. Once the SolGen generator with in-built smart distribution board was in place, power consumption was cut by 54.8%. 

With a combination of controlling energy requirements plus the large solar panels delivering most of the energy during the period, the generator run hours reduced to just 19 hours during the 40 day test period, an average of 0.5 hours per day, including w/c 21st August when the generator did not run at all and the entire site operated from solar/battery alone
